Problem
My garage only travels a bit and and reverses.

Solution
This could be one of two problems.

All electric operators have safety systems built in to detect an obstacle when hit.
If a garage is closing and it encounters an obstacle it will stop and re-open or when it opens and an obstacle is encountered it will only stop.

The following points can be followed to check;

  • Ensure that there is no obstacle in the way of the garage door’s travel.
  • Manually operate garage to see if there are no difficult spots during the travel of the garage door. If so a service is required.
  • Try and adjust the obstacle level. Please contact us for advice.

It is not safe to adjust the obstacle level to overcome a badly fitted or worn garage door or to prevent false obstacle signals being detected by the garage door motor.

Problem
My garage door is very heavy to open. Will automating the door solve this?

Solution
No! Repair or replace the garage door. If the garage door is too heavy, either the springs have worn out and lost their tension or something potentially more serious is wrong such as worn parts in the rollers or the lifting arms. If they were to break during operation the result could be very serious!
Automation is not a quick fix solution to a heavy garage door. It will help in the lifting of large garage doors. All electric motors have safety systems built in to detect an obstacle when hit. If you fit an electric motor to a badly fitted or worn garage door, the safety sensors have to be overridden to prevent signals being detected by the motor and causing constant auto reverse situations. An electric motor should only be installed to a perfectly balanced garage door whatever the age and model.

Problem
My vehicle has to be moved back every time to open and close the garage door as our door swings outwards and hits the bumper. Our short driveway means this is a constant problem.

Solution
Unfortunately there is no way to amend this except replacing the existing garage door with a more suitable door type. This could be either:

  • Sectional Garage Door
  • Roller Shutter Garage Door

All the above types of garage doors do not swing out through the opening during the opening or closing cycle which means you can stand or park right up to them and still operate without having to move.
The internal operation is also vertical and straight so if you own a high backed 4x4 vehicle it will not be a problem with closing when the vehicle is inside the garage.

Other benefits from a vertically or horizontally operating garage door include:

  • Better sealing properties
  • Better security
  • Usually very quiet operation
  • Longer life span
  • More versatile sizing options

Other FAQ's

What are the doors made of?

Roll-up doors
The single skin doors are made from single sheet cromodec steel. Steel doors are pressed to give the ribbed effect and this is where the doors strength comes from. This door then bends around the drum as the door opens.

Timber/wooden doors
The wooden doors are made from meranti panels that are hinged together. Because these doors hinge rather than roll up on a drum, the headroom requirement is less than the roll-up doors.

What is delivery time?

Delivery time is around 5 working days on standard sizes and 10 working days for purpose made doors from date of order.

Will I be informed of delivery?

Yes, we will contact you prior to the delivery or installation to arrange a time to deliver the door.

Do the electric doors require a special electric supply?

The electric motors come with a 15amp plug attached. A 15amp socket will be required within 1.5m of the door motor. Most people use an extension lead during installation and install a permanent feed later on.

What is the guarantee?

New Residential and Industrial installations carry a 12 month guarantee.
All services and repairs carry a 3 month guarantee

Is there a rubber seal on the bottom of the doors?

Yes we can supply rubber seals on both types of doors. This will help to seal the door against an uneven floor, although if the floor is sloping or very uneven the rubber seal won't be very effective.

How many remote controls do I get with the door and what's the range?

If you choose to have your door automated your door will come with two remote controls (unless you order extra). The range is approx 30m from the door but this does vary from site to site. Local radio interference can affect range dramatically but this is rare.

What is the best way to lubricate my door?

Do not use oil or grease to lubricate the guides of your door. The best form of lubrication is Silicone spray. This gives a clean lubrication to the door. The guides need to be kept clean and lubricated as needed.
